InfoQuest (May 24, 2022) - Accordingto Mr. Surapong Paisitpattanapong, spokesperson and Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), in April 2022, exports of finished cars were 55,696 units, a decrease of 40.65 percent from the previous month, but an increase of 5.33 percent year-on-year. April was the first month of year-on-year growth in auto exports this year, driven by an increase in pickup truck exports. Exports to Asia, the Middle East and North, Central and South America rose 11.34 percent to 33,480.95 million baht.
In the first four months of this year (January-April), 298,720 units were exported, down 3.94 percent year on year, but exports amounted to 177,646,390,000 baht, up 2.68 percent year on year. It is believed that this year's export growth target of 5 percent will be achieved.
In April, 117,786 units were produced, up 12.87 percent year on year, but down 31.79 percent from that in March. In the first four months of this year, total auto production reached 597,864 units, up 4.85 percent year-on-year. Domestic car sales in April were 63,427 units, up 9.11 percent from a year earlier but down 27.30 percent from March. Domestic auto sales in the first four months were 294,616 units, up 16.79 percent year-on-year.
As for new EVs, this April saw 1,232 BEVs, 4,709 new HEVs and 837 PHEVs, all of which show significant increase. As of April 30 this year, a total of 15,474 BEV, 218,086 HEVs and 34,938 PHEVs were separately registered.
