BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- China's State Council has issued a guideline on fostering the high-quality development of meteorology, vowing to achieve meteorological modernization through the use of smart technologies by 2035.
Major breakthroughs should be made in key meteorological science and technology fields by 2035, with the meteorological observation, forecasting and services elevated to a world-leading level, according to the guideline.
The deep integration of meteorology and other sectors will be enhanced and the monitoring and forecast system will be more advanced and accurate by then, the guideline stated.
The guideline underscored efforts to strengthen the self-innovation ability of meteorological technologies and boost the basic capacity by improving the precision of meteorological monitoring and forecast systems and providing more targeted services.
Efforts will also be made to bolster the role of meteorology in disaster prevention and mitigation and enhance the importance of meteorology in promoting high-quality economic development, according to the guideline.
