BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Electrified tea production, one of the rural electrification sectors promoted by State Grid Hunan Electric Power Co., Ltd. in central China's Hunan Province, is helping local tea industry prosper on a greener and more efficient way of production.

In Anhua County, the reputed hometown of dark tea located in Yiyang City of Hunan Province, tea farmers are now busy with electrified tea processing which brings them more economic benefits and a better life.

Chen Bing, head of Tangxi tea farm in Zhexi Town of Anhua County, said that thanks to the electrification-enabled improvement in tea processing technique, tea output keeps rising and demand for new tea leaves also increases constantly.

Compared with traditional processing that uses fuels such as wood and coal, electrified tea production has become the dominant way of tea processing in Hunan, one of the major tea producing areas in China, given the higher efficiency and stable quality of tea products.

After the full-process electrification of tea production, costs dropped by one tenth and the precisely-controlled temperature can also guarantee the taste and quality of tea, said He Jianzhong, head of a tea firm in Anhua County.

By far, electrified tea production has accounted for 60-plus percent of total tea production in the main tea producing areas in Hunan.

These are all attributable to the rural electrification programs propelled by State Grid Hunan Electric Power since 2021.

In total, the firm has applied 980 such programs in over 10 sectors such as the electrified tea production, electric baking, all-electric-powered farming, and all-electric-powered homestay in Hunan and replaced non-green energy consumption with electricity of 137 million kilowatt-hours (kWh).

In Yiyang City and Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, electrified tea manufacturing equipment such as tea kneading machine, fermentation machine, frying machine and drying machine has been popularized in local tea companies.

In Hengyang City and Changde City, all electric-powered production lines consisting of automatic feeder, pump, disintegrator, spray sterilizer, dryer, etc. are widely encouraged to be used by local animal husbandry and aquaculture firms.

In Loudi City, Shaoyang City and other places, air source heat pumps are promoted in drying of medicinal herbs and grains and in Zhuzhou City and Yiyang City, all electric-powered greenhouses and electric insulation equipment are promoted.

With different rural electrification strategies for different counties, pollutant emission has been significantly reduced in agriculture sector and rural areas of Hunan Province.

By improving the efficiency of agricultural production and quality of farm produce, rural electrification supported by State Grid Hunan Electric Power is injecting green vitality into construction of beautiful villages in Hunan. (Edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
