BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Hydropower stations along the mainstream of China's Yangtze River have generated a total of over 3 trillion kWh of electricity over the years, reported People's Daily on Monday.
The hydropower stations contribute to China's green development by saving about 910 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing about 240 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
As the world's largest clean energy corridor, the mainstream of the Yangtze River is home to six hydropower stations namely Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba.
There will be 110 hydropower units in operation once Baihetan Dam is fully operational, with a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kW, three times that of Three Gorges Dam.
Therefore, these hydropower stations will ease the electricity tension in central and eastern China and in Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guangdong provinces, helping China reach the carbon peak and achieve carbon neutrality.
