BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- China remained the third largest project investor in Germany in 2021, with the total number of projects reaching 149, reported Chinanews.com on Friday citing a report newly released by Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI).
According to the report, a total of 1,806 greenfield and brownfield investment projects were conducted in Germany in 2021, up more than seven percent year on year.
The report said the investment from Chinese companies mainly flowed to industries such as machinery manufacturing, automobile, consumer goods and food, information communication and software, transportation and logistics, electronics and semiconductor industry, financial services and health, etc.
Both Chinese and Japanese investment in Germany dropped significantly last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said the report. But some large-scale Chinese projects still achieved progress in Germany such as the investment in Thuringia from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL).
It is important to stress that China remains one of the three most important sources of greenfield investment and reinvestment projects in Germany, said Thomas Bozoyan, the report's author, adding that in a Europe-wide comparison, Germany is the most popular country for Chinese investors.
