BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) --The 5G technology is playing an increasingly important role in improving productivity, social environment, and people's living standard, providing new ways for social development in China.
To support the development of the digital economy, digital information infrastructures represented by 5G and data center construction are developing rapidly in the country.
Zhao Zhiguo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said recently at a press conference that digital information infrastructure is the foundation for the digital economy.
MIIT statistics show that in the first quarter of 2022, the newly added 5G mobile service subscribers in China reached 48.11 million, bringing total number of 5G subscribers to 403 million, accounting for 24.3 percent of total mobile service users.
Gu Rentao, senior fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, said that 5G is of great importance for promoting economic development and improving people's livelihood.
-- Digitalization integrated into all walks of life
Currently, China's digital information infrastructure and service level has been continuously improved, with 5G technology integrated into comprehensive service system, to provide more service functions with more variety. Digital production has also been embedded into various fields.
Duan Hao, vice president of Huawei wireless product line, said that "in China, there are more than 10,000 5G digital innovation projects. Meanwhile, 5G is digitalizing and transforming various trades, helping relevant industry to sustainably increase trade efficiency and reduce costs."
All round 5G deployment has helped enterprises and labor force to get into the market in an unprecedented manner, and promoted economic development and social progress. With 5G technology, people can conveniently conduct commodity and service trade online. In particular, under shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to rapidly developing network technology, working at home has become a popular mode to maintain smooth social operation.
According to Gu Rentao, during the pandemic, high speed and reliable network technology is needed to realize human to human, human to machine information exchange to ensure effectiveness of industrial production and working at home.
China has cultivated 5G- and GPON-related applications and innovation cases up to 23,000. 5G in particular, its applications and innovations are now, in a faster speed, extended to the field of industrial production control.
In the first quarter of this year, 75 projects, including national industrial internet big data center, have been put into operation, and there are 2,400 5G plus industrial internet projects under construction nationwide, noted Zhao.
-- 5G technology improving living standard
The development of 5G technology will promote modernization of digital infrastructure, which will become the foundation for the supply chain between consumers and producers, and fundamentally improve people's living standard.
According to Zhao, the MIIT is working with relevant departments on cultivating a batch of information consumer demo cities and demo projects, speeding up 5G technology's integration and application with energy, education, culture and tourism, to explore consumption potential.
With the support of 5G, development of distance education and remote medicine are speeding up. For example, Huawei has proposed their all scenario education solution, focusing on smart classes, smart campuses, scientific research and innovation, and other new scenario application, and introduced 9 scenario solutions including mixed teaching, workshop classroom, smart collaboration and so on.
Moreover, China has been in full swing to enhance network bases and continuously promote its coverage in rural and remote areas, as well as optimized network quality. Based on medical service online platform set up by AliHealth, a digital medical poverty alleviation project was initiated in the country. This project has been put into practice in several provinces and regions of China, where 100,000 doctors have been registered and contributed to the country's poverty alleviation cause.
In the future, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will further strengthen planning 5G development in a unified and coordinated manner, promote digital infrastructure construction, and help to build an information channel for economic and social development, said Zhao.
