InfoQuest (April 25, 2022) - M. Auramon Supthaweethum, Director-General of Thailand's Department of Trade Negotiations (DTN) announced that as the second largest mango exporter in ASEAN and the seventh largest mango exporter in the world, Thailand exported $11m worth of fresh mangoes in the first two months of this year, up 15 percent from the same period last year. Thailand's annual export of fresh mangoes to itsartners under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) accounts for 98 percent of its total fresh mango exports.
Based on relevant data, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), and the Chinese Mainland are the main importers of Thailand's fresh mango under FTA, in which Nam Dok Mai, Mahachanok, Khiew Sawoey, and Chok Anan are well received.
At present, 15 FTA trading partners, including seven ASEAN countries, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China) and Chinese mainland, have exempted Thailand's fresh mango import duties. Laos and Cambodia have cut tariffs on imported mangoes to 5 percent, and South Korea to 24 percent.
In addition, fruit snacks made from fresh fruits are also becoming more popular. Dried and frozen mangoes enjoy FTA preferential treatment together with fresh mangoes.
Auramon said that Thailand suppliers should develop more high-quality products to increase export value and expand foreign markets.
