Over the years, the city has launched campaigns to learn Lei Feng's spirit and commemorate this legendary Chinese soldier who devoted his life to selflessly helping others during his short lifetime. Now, his name is household and a cultural icon in China symbolizing selflessness, modesty, and dedication.
Recently, a 70-year-old man Li Junhuai saw a drowning woman in the city's cold icy river and without hesitation, he jumped into the river and picked up her. On site, onlookers also joined the rescue with some calling the police and looking around for ropes.
Afterwards, during an interview, the old man Li Junhuai said that he did it when he saw it, and he didn't think about it that much at all. The story immediately spread throughout the city and touched many people. It is the most vivid interpretation of Lei Feng's spirit in Hohhot.
In particular, during the COVID-19 epidemic, many ordinary people volunteered at the front line, standing guard in communities, screening for infection, carrying out cleaning and disinfection work, and buying medicines and delivering groceries for other residents' pressing needs.
