BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- In 2021, the added value of Beijing's digital economy reached 1.6 trillion yuan, increasing by 13.1 percent over the previous year, accounting for 40.4 percent of Beijing's GDP, according to Beijing Municipal Bureau Statistics.

In August 2021, Beijing proposed to build into a global digital economy benchmark city and released an implementation plan. Positive progress has been made so far. Annual operating income of internet and information technology service industry in 2021 reached 2.2 trillion yuan.
It is learned the new generation of information technology represented by big data, artificial intelligence and blockchain has accelerated its penetration into the real economy, and its role in driving economic growth and industrial upgrading has continued to increase. In 2021, the added value of Beijing's digital efficiency improvement industry reached 733.38 billion yuan, an increase of 9.3 percent over a year ago. The digitization rate of production equipment in industrial enterprises above designated size exceeded 54 percent, and the numerical control rate of key processes exceeded 5 percent.
In terms of service industry, data shows that in 2021, the annual revenue growth of online games, online entertainment, and online sports companies exceeded more than 20 percent. The amount of third-party mobile payment increased by 16.3 percent year-on-year, and the business volume of the inter-bank clearing system for online payment reached 97.6 trillion yuan, 1.8 times that of 2018.
Besides, in the past year, Beijing has gained fruitful digital technology innovation achievements. Beijing's first superconducting quantum computing cloud platform was launched, and China's first self-controllable blockchain platform was released in Beijing. Data shows that the number of invention patents authorized by enterprises in the core industries of the digital economy of Beijing reached 43,000, a year-on-year increase of 1.2 times, accounting for 54.2 percent of the city's authorized invention patents.
Last year, Beijing has constructed 52,000 5G base stations, achieving full coverage within the fifth ring road and precise coverage of key areas and typical scenarios outside the fifth ring road.
In the future, focusing on the world's cutting-edge technologies and future strategic needs, Beijing will take technological innovation as the engine to promote the deep integration of digital technology and the real economy, and create Beijing model for China's digital economic development.
