BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The construction of an e-commerce logistics zone project in the Nanning International Railway Port in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was officially kicked off on Tuesday, according to China Railway Nanning Group Co., Ltd.

The project aims to build Guangxi's largest logistics distribution center facing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, maximizing the port's advantageous position as an intersection of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and a multimodal transportation hub.

With a land area of 285 mu (about 19 hectares) and total investment of over one billion yuan (about 157.49 million U.S. dollars), the logistics zone is expected to be put in to use by the end of this year, said Song Jianqiang, general manager of Nanning International Railway Port Investment Development Co., Ltd.

As one of the major parts of Guangxi's participation in building the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and in the Belt and Road Initiative, the Nanning International Railway Port has altogether handled 11.58 million tons of goods and 751 China-Vietnam cross-border freight train trips since it started operation in May 2018, with ten logistics routes launched covering countries and regions in Southeast Asia and Europe.
