InfoQuest (March 29, 2022) - Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the Thai government spokesman, announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Prayut Chan-o-cha will attend and address the Fifth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit on the morning of March 30 via video link. The BIMSTEC summit will be held by Sri Lanka under the theme of "BIMSTEC-Towards a Resilient Region, Prosperous Economies, Healthy Peoples".
BIMSTEC is a multi-sectoral economic and technical cooperation organization consisting of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, seven countries along the Bay of Bengal, which was founded on June 6, 1997.
Thailand will hold BIMSTEC's rotating chairmanship for 2021 and 2022. During its chairmanship, Thailand will promote post-pandemic economic recovery and be well prepared to deal with various crises and challenges.
