BEIJING, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's road freight and passenger volumes fell year on year in January, according to data from the Ministry of Transport.
Freight volume totaled 2.93 billion tonnes last month, down 5.5 percent from a year ago.
Bucking the overall trend, the northeastern province of Liaoning recorded the biggest increase in road freight volume, up 40.5 percent year on year.
In January, road passenger trips totaled 338.01 million, down 28.9 percent year on year.
Jilin Province, also in the northeast, however, reported a sharp rise in road passenger trips, gaining 39.2 percent from a year earlier, the data showed.
