BEIJING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.06 percent, at 3,468.04 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.35 percent higher at 13,422.9 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at 908.8 billion yuan (143.5 billion U.S. dollars), up from 807.02 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the gold and environmental protection sectors led the gains, while those related to tourism and education led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.76 percent to close at 2,839.83 points.
