China to promote green consumption in key areas

Abstract : China released an implementation plan to boost green transformation of consumption recently, including 22 priorities and policies in four areas, reported Shanghai Securities News Monday.

BEIJING, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- China released an implementation plan to boost green transformation of consumption recently, including 22 priorities and policies in four areas, reported Shanghai Securities News Monday.

The plan was jointly released by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and five other government departments. According to the plan, by 2025, the market share of green and low-carbon products will increase substantially, the green transformation of consumption in key areas will achieve significant results, and a consumption system of green and low-carbon development will take shape.

Moreover, by 2030, green and low-carbon products will become the mainstream. Policy system and institutional mechanism of the green consumption will be greatly improved.

It is noticed that green automobile consumption has seen rapid development. In 2021, the total sales of new energy vehicles in China reached 3.52 million units, up 1.6 times year on year. It is estimated that new energy vehicles will reduce carbon emissions by about 15 million tons per year, compared with traditional ones.

The plan also included measures for green consumption in areas of food, housing, transportation and electricity.
