CHONGQING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tongliang District in southwest China's Chongqing municipality celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year with various cultural performances.
Performances including the dragon dance, Sichuan Opera, flute solo were presented, winning bursts of applause from the audience.
In addition to the artistic performances, some intangible cultural inheritors also showed the traditional food-making techniques.
For example, some displayed how to produce Tongliang Lanhuagen, a specialty snack made of glutinous rice, and Tongliang Hanlinsu, a special snack fried with millet, walnut, sesame and peanuts, allowing the audience to experience the intangible cultural heritage.
On celebrating events, there were also exhibition boards for Spring Festival folk culture, and the calligraphy artists also wrote the Spring Festival couplets for the audience.
It is reported that up to now, Tongliang District has boasted a total of one national-level intangible cultural inheritor, 17 municipal-level inheritors, and 135 district-level inheritors, involving nine categories of folk literature, traditional music, traditional dance, traditional drama, folk art, traditional sports and entertainment, and so on.
Holiday of the Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival, falls on Jan. 31- Feb. 6 this year. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
