BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Hydrogen fuel buses and pure electric vehicles have become the main transport force of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, pushing for the delivery of a green Winter Olympics in the Chinese capital city, reported Economic Information Daily Tuesday.
The proportion of new energy vehicles (NEVs) used in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is the highest ever for the Winter Olympics.
As the major transport service provider for the Beijing Winter Olympics, Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC) has arranged 212 hydrogen fuel buses and 330 electric vehicles to serve the event.
According to BAIC, these vehicles have been tested for cold start, driving range and temperature rise performance in low-temperature environment, 100-percent meeting and surpassing all testing standards.
In addition to NEVs, a new Fuxing bullet train set up for the Beijing Winter Olympics has also been launched at the Qinghe station on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway line.
The bullet train adopted lightweight technology, degradable green materials, graphene air purifier, and graywater reuse system to build a green and low-carbon space. The locomotive was designed under the bionic theory, leading to 7.9 percent decrease in the running resistance and over 10 percent reduction in comprehensive energy consumption.
Other elements also contribute to the "green" feature of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
The Beijing event is the first Olympic Games in history to use 100-percent green and clean electricity.
During the event, Beijing will use clean energy such as solar energy and wind energy transmitted from Zhangjiakou through the 500-KV Zhangbei flexible DC project, the world's first four-end flexible DC power grid massively transmitting wind power, photovoltaic, pumped storage, and other energy.
All the newly-build venues for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics have been awarded the three-star green building design logo, according to Ding Sheng, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
