BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Baotou, a prefecture-level city in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, will go all out to boost local economic development with the construction of major projects as top priority in 2022, according to the mayor of the city Zhang Rui who had an interview with people.cn recently.

The city plans to implement 902 major projects this year, with a planned investment of 147.9 billion yuan, 23 percent and 27 percent more than 2021, respectively, said Zhang.
Particularly, enterprise-invested projects rise by 3 percentage points year on year and account for 89.2 percent of the total, and industrial investment accounts for 62 percent of the total, increasing by 7 percentage points year on year, he added.
Efforts will be made to accelerate projects approvals, so as to ensure the 100-percent completion of all procedures related to the major projects before March 15, the start of the construction of renewal projects before the end of March and new projects before the end of April, as well as the completed investment rate of over 10 percent in the first quarter, over 50 percent in the second quarter, and over 90 percent in the third quarter, noted Zhang.
The city will also strive to advance investment promotion, with the aim to introduce more than 1,000 enterprises, including "chain owners", "group owners", unicorns, gazelles and "invisible champions", and introduce more preferential policies to support the development of enterprises engaging in technological innovation, construction and application of industrial internet, digital economy and other businesses, according to Zhang.
Based on industrial strengths, the city will focus on building new industrial chains in photovoltaic manufacturing, wind turbine manufacturing, new energy vehicles, and the comprehensive use of nuclear energy, speeding up the upgrading of the entire industrial chain of rare earth innovation, developing service industry clusters, and promoting the building of agricultural and livestock product processing industrial bases, in a bid to build a modern industrial system that is diversified and supported by multiple poles, said Zhang.
Baotou will also promote the deployment of 5G networks and other infrastructure in key areas, increase the number of 5G base stations by more than 1,000 over the year, and support on-demand access to 5G application scenarios of key enterprises and frontier projects, according to him.
