BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) – Kunshan city in east China's Jiangsu Province reported a 22.8 percent year on year surge in import and export volume of 106.61 billion U.S. dollars in 2021, hitting a record high and ranking first among cities and county in China, according to local customs.
Data shows that Kunshan's steady and progressive foreign trade development in 2021, which was mainly attributed to the city's total import and export volume, had set a monthly record for four consecutive months since September last year.
In 2021, the import and export volume of general trade in Kunshan increased 22.6 percent year on year to 161.4 billion yuan, accounting for 23.4 percent of the total. At the same time, the import and export volume of the bonded logistics sector hiked 76.3 percent year on year to 186.17 billion yuan, which further reflects the optimization of the trade structure in the city.
Kunshan's trade volume with major trading partners such as the European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reached 105.63 billion yuan and 88.79 billion yuan, up 20.5 percent and 28.5 percent year on year, respectively.
Meanwhile, Kunshan's trade with the Belt and Road (B&R) countries and regions reached 142.31 billion yuan, a year on year increase of 27.4 percent.
The foreign trade by private enterprises in Kunshan totaled 200.29 billion yuan, a 70.3-percent growth year on year, accounting for 29.1 percent of the city's total.
In addition, the export volume of electromechanical products, the leading industrial products in Kunshan, increased 15.4 percent year on year to 423.87 billion yuan in 2021, accounting for 92.6 percent of the total export value in the same period.
