BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The city of Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong Province should see both its total value of imports and exports and total retail sales of consumer goods exceed one trillion yuan (about 157.58 billion U.S. dollars) in the year 2021, according to Luo Zheng, deputy director-general of Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau.
The remarks were made on Wednesday at a conference themed "Together for a Shared Future -Understanding Davos in Guangzhou", where Luo also pointed out that Guangzhou's value of foreign investment actually utilized in 2021 exceeds 50 billion yuan for the first time.
Guangzhou has made proactive progress in embracing economic globalization in 2021, said Luo, noting that the city has wrapped up the efforts in executing the three-year action plan of participating the Belt and Road Initiative. The year 2021 witnessed 73.9 percent more China-Europe freight train trips going through Guangzhou than the previous year, with the value of goods increased by 91.5 percent.
Responding to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Guangzhou is the first city in the nation to issue RCEP cross-border e-commerce policies and RCEP investment guide, said Luo.
In the future, the city is planning on deepening reform and promoting higher-level opening-up, Luo noted, adding that Guangzhou will make further efforts in integrating with the regional and global economy, in order to achieve win-win cooperation with countries and regions across the globe.
