BEIJING, Jan. 7(Xinhua) -- A Chinese company has recently signed a contract for the construction of a sewage treatment plant in Rijeka, Croatia, with contract value of the project standing at 523 million kuna (approximately 69 million euros), of which 71.33 percent comes from European Union funds, reported Beijing Daily citing words from Embassy of China in Croatia Wednesday.

Rijeka is the largest seaport and the third largest city in Croatia, as well as an important transportation hub for Croatia and Europe.
As one of the largest water investment projects in Croatia, the project is designed with a construction period of 4 years. The project is in line with Croatia's strategy of reducing carbon emissions and achieving green transformation, and will play an important role in water resources protecting, according to the report.
