BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that China has not only put forward the Global Development Initiative (GDI), but will also take action to deliver on this major initiative.
Wang made the remarks in an interview with Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group on the international situation and China's diplomacy in 2021.
He said that the GDI is an international public good from China. It is an important effort to implement the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
"The most central concept of the GDI is to put the people front and center. Its most important goal is to overcome the challenges brought by the pandemic and accelerate the implementation of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," said Wang, adding that the most fundamental pursuit of the GDI is to meet the aspirations of people around the world for a better life and realize the common values of humanity.
He noted that in just over three months since it was proposed, the GDI has won the endorsement and support of multiple international organizations including the UN agencies and nearly 100 countries.
Through the platform of the UN and multilateral and bilateral channels, China will further synergize development cooperation strategies with other parties, and promote collaboration between the development processes of various countries, regions and mechanisms, he said.
China will deepen practical cooperation in the eight priority areas of the GDI to generate strong synergy for attaining the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals on schedule.
China will also actively deliver its commitment to provide an additional 3 billion U.S. dollars of international assistance in the next three years, and earnestly support other developing countries in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and restoring economic and social development. It will work with all parties to build a global community of development with a shared future, said the Foreign Minister. Enditem
