BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- The 4th Changbai Mountain Powder Snow Festival and the 16th Changbai Mountain Snow Culture Tourism Festival kicked off on Monday in northeast China's Jilin Province.
The opening ceremony attracted more than 200 guests including officials from Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Jilin Provincial Government and relevant departments and also the Changbai Mountain Protection Development Management Committee, ice and snow tourism experts and skiing enthusiasts.
With the new Dunhua-Changbaishan High-speed Railway officially opened to traffic last Friday, it will only take 2 hours to get to Changbai Mountain from Changchun, capital city of Jilin province, which will help develop the region's tourism sector and the ice and snow economy, said Wang Ku, director of the Changbai Mountain Protection Development Management Committee..
It's expected that the Changbai Mountain Powder Snow Festival will promote the integration of ice and snow resources around the region, help to explore the development mode of ice and snow economy, strengthen the training of ice and snow talents, promote open cooperation and advance the high-quality development of ice and snow economy, Wang added.
Gao Zhiguo, party secretary of CPPCC in Xinjiang Altay prefecture, said in his speech that the Changbai Mountains in Jilin province and Altai Mountains in Xinjiang are both on the world's "golden latitude belt for ice and snow". The two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation and give full play to their comprehensive advantages in ice and snow resources, enhancing the reputation of the Powder Snow Festival and generating stronger impetus to achieve income growth during the construction of high-quality development pilot area of the ice and snow economy.
During the opening ceremony, the torch of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, named as "Flying", was also came to the powder snow festival site.
From November 1, 2021 to April 30, 2022, in addition to the opening ceremony held Monday, various ice and snow activities such as the Changbai Mountain Ice and Snow Food Festival and Changbai Mountain Ice and Snow Car Rally Championship will be held one after another to provide more impetus for accelerating the recovery of winter tourism in Changbai Mountain under the normalization of epidemic prevention and control.
