BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- A China-Laos international freight train bound for Vientiane, the capital of Laos, departed from the Shijiazhuang International Land Port in north China's Hebei Province on Wednesday, marking the first of its kind departing from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, reported the Economic Information Daily Thursday.

Carrying 70 TEUs full of tires, machinery equipment and daily necessities, the freight train will arrive in Vientiane in seven days, with a total traveling length of more than 3,600 kilometers.

"The launch of the freight train will meet the surging trade demand, and safeguard the supply and industrial chains," said Ren Yongchang, deputy general manager of the Shijiazhuang International Land Port.

"As the ninth international route of the Shijiazhuang International Land Port, the China-Laos international freight train will reach out to more Southeast Asian countries," said Li Jiangna, a department manager of the Shijiazhuang International Land Port.

It is learned that the freight train will operate regularly once a week.
