BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China are expected to stand at about 5 million units in 2022, representing year-on-year growth of 47 percent, forecast by Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) at the 2022 China Auto Market Development Forecast Summit recently held in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Based on the sales in the first 11 months, the CAMM predicted that the total car sales in the country will hit 26.1 million units in 2021, up 3.1 percent year on year. In particular, the NEV sales are expected to stand at 3.4 million units, a jump of 150 percent year on year.
In the first 11 months of this year, China produced more than 3 million NEVs and sold nearly 3 million NEVs, showing the robust performance of the NEV market, according to Fu Bingfeng, executive vice-president and secretary-general of the association.
Regarding the outstanding performances of the NEVs, Fu pointed out that the auto industry, empowered by the new round of scientific and technological revolution, is accelerating its transformation and upgrade to become more electric, internet connected and intelligent, generating opportunities for the NEV development. Meanwhile, the country's efforts for green and low-carbon development also injected a driving force for development of the NEVs.
