BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China · Shandong "vegetable basket" high-quality development index was officially released on Tuesday in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province.
This index focuses on three key areas of "vegetable basket", involving vegetables, aquaculture as well as animal husbandry, and meanwhile provides a digital observation window for measuring the high-quality development level of Shandong's "vegetable basket".
Jointly developed by China Economic Information Service (CEIS), Shandong Development and Reform Commission, Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Shandong Academy of Macroeconomic Research, the index assesses the overall level of Shandong "vegetable basket" development from five dimensions, covering production and processing, market circulation, green safety, innovative development and open cooperation.
According to the operation results, the index surged 41.49 percent from 2016 to reach 141.49 points in 2020, showing that the province's "vegetable basket "industry has already steered into a new stage of high-quality and stable development.
The release of this index will become a significant milestone in the history of promoting the development of modern agriculture by digitalization, an official noted, adding that Shandong will further enhance comprehensive agricultural production capacity and improve agricultural quality and efficiency so as to make a positive contribution to stabilizing domestic production and ensuring supplies of agricultural products across the country.
The index makes use of Shandong's vegetable, aquatic, and animal husbandry industries as characteristic samples, and utilizes data to accurately quantify the high-quality development effects of the "vegetable basket", said Gong Xixiang, secretary general of Xinhua News Agency.
According to Gong, the research results of the index reflect the status of Shandong's "vegetable basket" in the whole country, which is conducive to enhancing the high-quality development and influence of Shandong's "vegetable basket".
