BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- China has achieved remarkable results in coordinated development of different regions over the past years, reported Economic Information Daily Thursday quoting a report.
Under the guidance of the Department of Regional Economics, National Development and Reform Commission, the China Coordinated Regional Development Index Report (2020) was organized and completed by Huang Qunhui, head of the Institute of Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and released November 16 by the China Social Sciences Press.
According to the report, the coordinated regional development index of China showed a trend of continuous rise from 2012 to 2020, and rose significantly during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020).
Infrastructure accessibility and equal access to basic public services are the major forces driving the coordinated development among regions, and the narrowing of the gap in people's living standards, the utilization of regional comparative advantages and coordinated green and low-carbon development have also played an important role, says the report.
However, it also points out that there is still a large absolute gap between regions in development, with insufficient flows of capital factors, and uneven development of equal access to basic public services in different areas of people's livelihood.
To solve the problems, it suggests China continue to deepen institutional reforms, improve the mechanism for coordinated regional development, and form a regional economic layout that draws on each other's strengths and promotes high-quality development.
