BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Beihai City, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will take advantage of the green chemical industrial park in Tieshangang District to specially promote development of the industries such as olefin, aromatics, new chemical materials and fine chemicals, according to a conference on new chemical materials recently held here.
"Beihai is at the center of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation Zone. It is the only city in western China that has a deep-water seaport, all-weather airport, high-speed railway and expressway at the same time," said Jie Yubin, head of the China National Chemical Information Center (CNCIC), adding that Beihai enjoys a good industrial foundation and development potential in terms of the development of new materials.
Liao Liyong, mayor of Beihai, said that in the next five years, Beihai will build six industrial clusters including green chemicals, and strive to achieve 100 billion yuan (about 15.67 billion U.S. dollars) in output value of the green chemical industry cluster by 2025.
The green chemical industrial park is focusing on development of the industries including olefin, aromatics, new chemical materials, fine chemicals, and also eyeing expansion to the development of the high-end chemical products such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate, and polyester, according to Mo Huafu, director of Tieshangang District.
In recent years, a number of leading chemical enterprises including Sinopec Beihai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. have settled in Beihai, which helps Beihai initially establish a green chemical industry chain.
According to Mo, a total of 10 green chemical industry projects in the park have been completed and put into operation, with a total investment of 11.6 billion yuan. There are 13 projects under construction and commencing construction, involving an investment of about 116.7 billion yuan. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
