BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong province, was picked as one of the Culture Cities of East Asia 2022, according to the city's official newspaper Jinan Daily.
Selected cities are unveiled at the China-Japan-ROK Cultural Ministers' Meeting. This year's meeting was held online on Monday due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2013, the three countries have carried out an appraising and picking program annually to choose one or two cities from each country as the Culture Cities of East Asia to promote cultural exchanges and cooperation, the protection of intangible cultural heritage, the construction of a public cultural service system, and city planning.

Jinan will dig deeper into traditional Chinese culture resources and work together with the other cities awarded as the Culture Cities of East Asia to strengthen cultural exchanges and deepen pragmatic cooperation in an attempt to push forward the development and prosperity of East-Asian culture, said Sun Shutao, mayor of Jinan.
Since becoming a candidate of the Culture Cities of East Asia in 2019, Jinan, known as a famous springs city, has been beefing up efforts to vigorously boost its culture and tourism industries and put forward the concept of "co-creation, co-construction, and sharing", according to Sun.
Besides Jinan, Wenzhou in China, Oita in Japan, and Gyeongju in the ROK also were choosen as the Culture Cities of East Asia 2022. (Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
