BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The cargo throughput of ports in north China's Hebei Province exceeded 700 million tonnes in the first seven months of this year, an increase of 6.5 percent from the same period of last year, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Monday.
According to the report, more than 2.3 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers were handled at ports in Hebei during the January-July period, up 9.9 percent year on year.
From January to July, the cargo throughput of Qinhuangdao Port in Hebei Province rose 3.9 percent year on year to 120 million tonnes, and its container throughput amounted to 352,000 TEU, surging 5.8 percent from the same period of last year.
Tangshan port in the province saw its cargo throughput grow 6.8 percent year on year to 410 million tonnes during the period, and the container throughput jump 11.8 percent to 1.53 million TEUs.
In the first seven months of 2021, the province transported overall 29.049 million tonnes of freight via warterways, an increase of 12.9 percent year on year and the province's cargo turnover spiked 21.1 percent year on year to 44.88 billion tonne-kilometers.(Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
