BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Chang'an China-Europe freight trains which depart from or arrive in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, have made great progress in buidling an important channel for international trade, with its high efficiency and low cost.

On July 1, loaded with 50 containers of goods including clothing, electronic accessories, furniture and household appliances, the Chang'an train departed from Xi'an for Immingham, a port city in the U.K. The journey is more than 11,300 kilometers.

"The launch of the Xi'an-Immingham route is the most convenient China-Europe train service to the U.K. at present", said Yuan Xiaojun, general manager of a Xi'an-based company providing railway transport services.

Yuan added that after arriving in Kaliningrad, Russia, the train serivce will be replaced by sea transport, which will avoid the congestion of traditional routes, enhance the customs clearance efficiency, and save the transportation time and costs.

Since the launch of the Chang'an train service in the end of November 2013, the trains have been running 15 international main routes to Central Asia, South Asia, West Asia and Europe on a regular basis. Last year, 3,720 trips of Chang'an train service were operated, with 2.811 million metric tons (tonnes) of goods delivered. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, Huang Yurong, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
