BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The sales of new energy vehicles(NEV) reached 1.206 million units in China in the first half of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 2 times, statistics from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed.
Compared with the same period in 2019, sales of NEV increased by 92.3 percent in the first half. Among the main types of new energy vehicles, sales of pure electric vehicles exceeded one million, and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles exceeded 200,000, both showing rapid year-on-year growths.
In June alone, sales performance of NEV remains better than that of traditional fuel vehicles, with sales amount reaching 256,000 units, setting a new historical record high.
The prosperity of NEV market has promoted the rising demand for upstream power batteries. According to the latest statistics released by China Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance For Electric Vehicle, China's power battery output totaled 15.2GWh in June, a year-on-year increase of 184. percent, while sales of power batteries totaled 12.0GWh, a year-on-year increase of 131.0 percent.
It is worth mentioning that the construction of charging infrastructure is also accelerating.The latest data showed that there were 266,000 charging piles newly established in the first half of this year, up 176.0 percent year-on-year.
