MACAO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Macao's gaming industry revenue soared 492.2 percent year on year in May 2021, the special administrative region's (SAR) gaming industry watchdog said on Tuesday.
Macao's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau said in its latest report that the gaming revenue was 10.445 billion patacas (about 1.3 billion U.S. dollars) in May, an increase of 492.2 percent year on year.
The accumulated revenue in the first four months of this year reached 42.487 billion patacas (about 5.3 billion U.S. dollars), up 28.7 percent year on year.
Macao's monthly gaming revenue kept a year-on-year decrease in 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19 and the following tightened travel restrictions to the SAR. However, the drop has been easing in the second half of 2020 thanks to stable epidemic situations there.
Since February this year, the monthly gaming revenue has been growing year on year. In April, monthly gaming revenue soared 1,014.4 percent year on year. Enditem
