What are the advantages of working in a Chinese company today? The answer to this not-easy question has been given by Matteo Giovannini, Senior Finance Managerat ICBC, the main bank both in China and at a global level which is active in Italy as well. "Some of the advantages are the quick improvement in Mandarin Chinese, the opportunity to deepen cultural aspects that go beyond daily life, the understanding of the dynamics of making decisions in highlycomplex structures-usually ignoredby those who see them from the outside-, the creation of an important knowledge network which is helpful not only in China, and the privileged observation of political trends." These are the main aspects highlighted during his speech, which also included the skills Chinese companies and contexts ask for, including a sound academic background-with a high demand for people graduated in economy and STEM subjects-, intercultural sensitivity, and thusthe capability to interact without prejudices, and communication and interpersonal skills.

"In order to emerge in China, it is paramount to find one's own competitive advantages by betting on what distinguishes us from the others, to clearly understand the company terminology and the cultural aspects and, obviously, to consider the politicalcorporate dynamics," the young Manger concluded.

Rosario Pizzimenti, General Manager of Motovario Shanghai, talked about career paths in an Italian company which works in China and stated that "fears and concerns must not be influent when it comes to face new working experiences abroad, but it is important to dare. Degreedoes not have to be considered as the finish line, but as a springboard".

Moreover, the Manager gave workers of Italian companies in China his advice and pointed out that it is essential to have a clear picture of the company’s organization and of the partners without forgetting the main mission of an Italian person who works in an Italian subsidiary: creating communication bridges while trying to turn all the information received from the Italy-based parent company into local know-how.

This has been the 8th edition of CCIC's Career Day in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture, the Embassy of Italy in the PRC, AGIC, the Italy China Foundation, the universities Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Università degliStudi Roma, Tre, School of Art - Nanjing University, Università di Macerata, Zhejiang International Studies University, Jilin International Studies University, Nanjing University Center for Sino-Italian Cultural Studies and the institutesGalileo Galilei Italian Institute, International Business School Suzhou at XJTLU, Italian Chinese Professional Network (ICPN) andTOChina Hub.

He also talked about the certificationsystem launched by the Chinese Government in order to facilitate companies when it comes to evaluate the compliance of their personnel’s skills with national standards.

Stefano Colli-Lanzi, President and CEO of GIGroup, stated that currently China is lacking talents: "we are living in an extremely dynamic era with several changes. At a global level, the job market is evolving at such at speed tocreate an increasingly wide structural gap between supply and demand," Colli-Lanzi explained, adding that "there are several opportunities which are difficult to seize due to the specificity and peculiarity of the needed roles".

Colli-Lanzi ended his speech by offering some cues regarding the approach to follow while looking for a job: knowing the aim, looking at the market, at the companies and at the institutions that work with people to make them grow by investing in their skills and trying to find paths thatmeet both market needs and personal strengths.
