BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) -- China's mobile phone shipments totaled 125 million units in the first four months of the year, up 38.4 percent year on year, data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed on Tuesday.
In April alone, China's mobile phone shipments slid 34.1 percent year on year to about 27.49 million units, said the CAICT, a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The shipments of 5G mobile phones amounted to 21.42 million units last month, accounting for 77.9 percent of April's total shipments.
A total of 16 new 5G phone models were released into the market last month, 50.0 percent of all new models in the country in April.
Domestic brands continued to dominate mobile phone shipments in April, hitting 24.76 million units and making up 90.1 percent of total shipments.
