BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- The direct sales revenue from production, network transmission, terminal presentation, core components, video services and other links of the ultra-high-definition video (UHDV) industry in China exceeded 850 billion yuan in 2020, Zhang Li, president of CCID Consulting affiliated to a think tank under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on May 9.
Zhang made the remarks at the 2021 World UHD Video Industrial Conference held in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong province.
Zhang added that driven by UHDV industry, vertical sectors' hardware sales value and application scale amounted to over 930 billion last year. With advancement of 5G commercial use and UHD display technology, China's UHDV sector will see improved industrial landscape and market coverage, said Li Dongsheng, chairman of Chinese electronics giant TCL, adding that the industry is expected to usher in a golden development stage this year.
China's UHDV industrial growth also gained a boost from policy support. For example, in 2019, the MIIT, National Radio and Television Administration, and the China Media Group jointly issued an action plan for the development of UHDV industry between 2019 and 2022. The plan stressed innovative applications of UHDV in areas such as broadcasting, culture, education, entertainment, security monitoring, medical care, smart transport and industrial manufacturing, and pledged better government coordination and guidance, widening financing and investment channels, and enhanced efforts in talent pool building to support the industry development.
The market size of China's UHDV industry is projected to surpass three trillion yuan in 2022, according to forecast made by institutions.
Speeding up the development of UHDV industry can directly drive the overall upgrading of production and broadcasting equipment, terminal products, display panels, chips and other industrial chains, boost breakthroughs in digital technologies, propel construction of new infrastructure, promote content prosperity and application innovation, thus forming a trillion-level emerging industrial cluster, stated Xiao Yaqing, minister of industry and information technology at the conference.
