TAIPEI, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's exports to the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong hit 14.82 billion U.S. dollars in April, up by 32.2 percent year on year, the island's finance authority said on Friday.
The figure accounted for 42.4 percent of Taiwan's total exports last month, the authority said in a press release.
The island's imports from the mainland and Hong Kong rose by 19.3 percent year on year to 6.57 billion dollars last month.
The mainland and Hong Kong remain Taiwan's largest export markets and sources of trade surplus.
In April, Taiwan's total exports expanded by 38.7 percent year on year to 34.96 billion dollars, while its total imports rose by 26.4 percent from a year earlier to 28.79 billion dollars.
The authority expressed optimism about the island's export outlook as the fundamentals of the global economy improve and Taiwan has a competitive edge in the semiconductor sector. Enditem
