BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Major ports in the east China's Shandong Province saw its container throughput stood at 370 million tonnes in the first three months of 2021, up 9 percent year on year, hitting a record high, reported local newspaper Thursday.

During the same period, the ports handled 7.93 million TEUs of cargoes, up 11 percent from the same period last year.

Since the year begins, Shandong ports have been committed to building the shipping routes along the Belt and Road (B&R) and container routes for cross-border e-commerce businesses.

Specifically, port in the city of Rizhao has launched a new China-Europe freight route connecting the city with Nansha in south China.

Meanwhile, the ports in Shandong are also making efforts to build the assembly center of China-Europe freight trains and promote the construction of sea-rail transit bases along the Yellow River.

Another major port in Qingdao launched an intelligent operation and maintenance system for achieving efficient terminal operation in the first quarter, while Rizhao port also strengthened the smart level of bulk cargo operation at the terminal.
