BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region saw its transportation construction investment soared 297 percent year on year to over 48 billion yuan in the first quarter, overfulfilling the 40-billion-yuan target set by the autonomous region for the first three months, Guangxi Daily reported on last Saturday quoting data from the regional department of transportation.
In breakdown, more than 4 billion yuan was invested in railways, 41 billion yuan in highways and 3 billion yuan in waterways in Guangxi in the first quarter.
From January to February, Guangxi's total investment in roads and waterways ranked second in China.
It is noted that the autonomous region will step up investment in transportation system in the second quarter, striving to complete more than 52 billion yuan of investment in comprehensive transportation construction. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
