BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Construction of the second phase of Hainan Changjiang nuclear power plant in South China's Hainan province officially kicked off on Wednesday.
Located in Haiwei town, Changjiang county of Hainan province, the phase II project will two sets of 1.2-million-kilowatt nuclear power generating units.
With an estimated total investment of 36.85 billion yuan, the project will enter full operation by the end of 2026.
The project is controlled by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. and constructed jointly by China Huaneng together with China National Nuclear Corporation.
The project adopts the Hualong One technical solution with China's independent intellectual property rights. On the basis of the first pile of Hualong One demonstration project, 88 design optimizations and improvements have been taken in accordance with the characteristics of Changjiang site, said relevant person in charge of China Huaneng.
After completion, the project will provide 18 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity to Hainan province each year, which is of great significance to optimizing Hainan's energy structure.
