JERUSALEM, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Israel has received the first model of a Chinese semi-autonomous electric road train, Israel's Government Press Office said on Wednesday.
"Israel is the first country to receive the train from China, thanks to Israel's close ties with the Chinese government," the Israeli Ministry of Transport said.
This train offers a quiet and safe ride, with a high capacity of 250-500 passengers in 3-5 carriages, as well as fast boarding and alighting of passengers.
Powered by advanced batteries sufficient for about 80 km, the electric train can be fully recharged in a few minutes.
The innovative train does not require the deployment of power poles or railway tracks along the route. It uses fast charging spots at the terminal, so there is no need for complex, expensive and time-consuming infrastructure construction.
The train follows a virtual track marked with colored stripes on the road, and the driver only controls the brake and speed changer.
In the future, the train is expected to be fully autonomous, controlled by a municipal control center.
"This is one of the most creative and smart solutions for traffic jams in Israel, and one of the means that will convince Israeli drivers to leave private cars at home," Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev said. Enditem
