BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The nuclear power industry of China is ushering in new development opportunities as it is included in the work layouts related to the peaking of carbon emissions, reported Shanghai Securities News Monday.

Data showed that as of November 2020, 47 nuclear power units were built on the Chinese mainland, with another 16 approved units under construction, making China the country with the largest number of nuclear power units under construction worldwide.

Based on the calculation of the existing 63 units, China's nuclear power will save 125 million metric tons (tonnes) of coal cosnumption, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 437 million tonnes each year, which is equivalent to the emission reduction of 17.9 million mu (about 11,933 square kilometers) of forests.

The State Council Information Office of China in December 2020 released a white paper on China's energy development in the new era, proposing to give priority to the development of non-fossil energy and develop nuclear power in a safe and orderly manner.

At the end of January 2021, the No. 5 unit of China's Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant (hereinafter referred to as "Hualong No.1"), developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), was officially put into commercial operation.

"Hualong No.1" has formed a complete set of independent model standard system as China's third-generation nuclear power technology with completely independent intellectual property rights. It meets the highest international safety standards.

Many institutions point out that nuclear power, as a controllable clean energy, can not be ignored in the energy transition process, and the approval of nuclear power is expected to accelerate during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

Insiders believe that a new wave of nuclear power construction in China is coming.

Jiangsu Shentong Valve Co., Ltd. (002438.SZ) in east China's Jiangsu Province predicts that 6-8 new nuclear power units may be approved for construction every year in the future, and accordingly, the company is expected to see about 400 million yuan of new valve orders for new nuclear power projects each year.

Individual stocks in the nuclear power industry chain have also become the focus of attention.

Data from Shanghai Securities News show that since the beginning of 2021, many companies on the nuclear power industry chain have been surveyed by institutions, including Jiangsu Shentong Valve Co., Ltd., China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), Yongxing Special Materials Technology Co., Ltd. (002756.SZ), Jilin Electric Power Co., Ltd. (000875.SZ), Shenzhen Woer Heat-Shrinkable Material Co., Ltd. (002130.SZ), etc.
