BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The China express delivery development index came in at 189.0 in February, increasing 20.2 percent from the same period last year, said the State Post Bureau, reported People's Daily Sunday.

The sub-index for development scale, development capability and development trend jumped to 185.9, 150.1, and 112.5, with year-on-year growth reaching 62.5 percent, 21 percent, and 69.7 percent, respectively. The express delivery market maintained a good development trend during the Spring Festival holiday in 2021, playing an active role in protecting people's livelihood and smoothing the circulation of economy.

According to data from the State Post Bureau, the express delivery business volume in February is expected to reach about 4.8 billion pieces with the business revenue reaching 49 billion yuan, which increased 73 percent and 34 percent respectively compared with the low base in the same period last year under the influence of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Under the "stay put" policy during the Spring Festival holiday and driven by the continuous promotion of the online Lunar New Year's Shopping Festival, the express delivery business volume has surged. During the week-long Spring Festival holiday, China's postal express industry collected and delivered 660 million express parcels in total with a year-on-year increase of 260 percent.

According to the State Post Bureau, the express delivery business volume in March is expected to surge 35 percent from the same period in 2020.
