BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Data from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) showed that the online retail sales surged to 905.76 billion yuan (about 140.3 billion U.S. dollars) during the month-long online shopping festival staged by major e-commerce platforms, as many Chinese chose to stay put for the holiday amid the pandemic.
The month-long shopping festival, from Jan. 20 to Feb. 18, also saw an increase of 48.5 percent in the sales revenue of online catering sector, compared with the same period of last year, with food delivery growing by 56.8 percent, according to the official data.
Sales of New Year's Eve dinner surged by 78.8 percent, as people have stayed put and ordered ready-to-eat meals for celebration.
Besides, moviegoers during the Lunar New Year drove the online sales of movie tickets to over 9 billion yuan, up 412.7 percent year on year.
