BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Northeast China's Jilin province has set up provincial esports association Monday in Changchun city to provide professional training platform for players while better regulate the industry on track of healthy development.
China's esports market has stepped on fast development and Jilin's esports association at the provincial level aims to further improve the efficient supply of esports product and services, drive the coordinated development of related sectors to accelerate the establishment of a healthy and orderly industry structure, said Gao Jifeng, head of the training and competition department with the sports bureau of Jilin.
The association will launch esports activities, strengthen communication and exchange ideas with local esports association, according to Wu Yipeng, president of the new established asscociation.
China's esports market has seen exponential growth in recent years, with revenue surging 44.16 percent from 94.73 billion yuan (about 14.63 billion U.S. dollars) in 2019 to 136.56 billion yuan in 2020, while the number of esports players across the country growing 9.65 percent year on year to hit 488 million last year, according to a report released jointly by the game publishing working committee of the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association and the China Game Industry Development Research Institute.
Market research company iResearch predicted continued growth in China's esports market, whose revenue is estimated to reach 165.14 billion yuan in 2021. (Edited by Niu Huizhe with Xinhua Silk Road, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
