BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- China will include the strengthening of shale oil exploration and development in the energy development plan for the 14th Five-year Plan period from 2021 to 2025, according to the National Energy Administration on Tuesday.
Despite the fallout of the COVID-19 epidemic, the country made significant achievement in oil and gas production last year.
In 2020, its crude oil output maintained the recovering trend for the second consecutive year to reach 195 million tonnes, an increase of 1.6 percent year-on-year.
The country produced 188.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2020, representing a rise of 9.8 percent year on year. China has seen its annual natural gas output increase by more than 10 billion cubic meters for four consecutive years.
As one of the world's largest oil buyers, the country imported 540 million tonnes of crude oil in 2020, surging 7.3 percent year on year. It imported 102 million tonnes of natural gas in 2020, up 5.3 percent year on year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
