BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- China imported 101.661 million tonnes of natural gas in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 5.3 percent, with its import value reaching 231.49 billion yuan, down 19.4 percent, data showed by China's customs recently.

China's demand for natural gas has maintained rapid growth amid the country's effective epidemic prevention measures. According to Zhongyu Information Technology Co., China's apparent natural gas consumption in 2020 was 328.9 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 7.6 percent.
In 2020, China's natural gas import sources were further diversified. Australia still tops among 24 import sources, accounting for 46 percent of the total. Qatar ranks the second, followed by Malaysia and Indonesia.
