SHANGHAI, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- East China's Shanghai will strive to promote the scales of the three leading industries, namely integrated circuits (IC), biomedicine and artificial intelligence (AI), to double during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), said the city's mayor Gong Zheng, in the government work report delivered at the fifth session of the 15th Shanghai Municipal People's Congress on Sunday.
According to Gong, the city's draft 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035 has made it clear that efforts will be made to strengthen the four major functions of Shanghai and continue to enhance the city's overall strength.
Shanghai will try to strengthen the global resource allocation function. It is expected to improve the internationalization of factor markets, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and upgrade the level of shipping services.
Meanwhile, Shanghai will also enhance its function as a source of scientific and technological innovation. It is expected to highlight the core role of innovation in the overall development and strive to make a number of breakthroughs in basic research, application of basic research and key technology.
The leading function of high-end industries should be enhanced. Shanghai will accelerate the development of electronic information, automobiles, high-end equipment, advanced material, life and health as well as fashion industries, and vigorously promote the digitalization of economy, daily life and governance.
