BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- "Detective Chinatown 3," the newest installment in China's well-received "Detective Chinatown" film franchise, is slated to land in theaters in 25 Middle Eastern and African countries on Feb. 12, the same day as its release in China.
The film's production company Wanda Pictures made the announcement on Thursday via social media, releasing an English-language trailer for the movie.
Spring Festival is a major holiday for Chinese people, marking the first day on the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on Feb. 12 this year. The week-long Spring Festival holiday starting on Feb. 11 is usually a busy, lucrative season for cinemas in China.
"Detective Chinatown 3" will join six other domestic titles for release on Feb. 12.
The sequel to the 2018 comedy hit "Detective Chinatown 2," which generated a total Chinese box office of 3.4 billion yuan (about 526 million U.S. dollars), topped the list of most highly anticipated holiday films compiled by movie-ticketing platform Maoyan.
More than 3.9 million Maoyan users have expressed interest in seeing the film, according to Maoyan data.
China's box office continued to see robust growth into 2021 after scoring a record high for New Year's Day earnings. The total box office revenue so far this year has exceeded 2.6 billion yuan. Enditem
