BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- China has rapidly emerged as the second-largest consumption market for cosmetics after the United States, reported Economic Information Daily on Wednesday.

According to the report, China now has more than 5,400 licensed cosmetics manufacturing companies, more than 87,000 registered entities of various types of cosmetics, and nearly 1.6 million valid registered products.

The Regulations on the Supervision and Administration of Cosmetics which came into effect in January this year has formed a whole-process supervision system for China's cosmetics industry and China's National Medical Products Administration is also speeding up the formulation and revision of related supporting documents to ensure that the responsibility for product quality and safety is in place, said Lin Qingbin, researcher of National Medical Products Administration.

According to the regulations, operators of cosmetics e-commerce platforms shall register the operators in the platform with their real names. For cosmetics e-commerce platform operators and cosmetics operators in the platform who don't obey relevant laws and regulations, the medical products administration department will give administrative penalties such as warnings and fines in accordance with the law.
