​SW. China's Chongqing remains leading in sci-tech innovation, report

BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chongqing Municipality in southwest China registered a comprehensive scientific and technological innovation index of 71.73 percent in 2019, 1.94 percentage points higher from 2018, reported Chongqing Daily Wednesday quoting the 2020 Chongqing sci-tech innovation index report.

The report, involving five primary indicators and 17 secondary indicators, was jointly released recently by the Chongqing Productivity Council and a big data research institute initiated by Chongqing Daily and a local data information firm.

According to the report, the sci-tech innovation indexes of 27 districts and counties in Chongqing improved at different levels in 2019, with that of ten districts exceeding 71.73 percent.

The report also noted that in 2019, the city's sic-tech innovation input index registered 76.81 percent, 3.09 percentage points higher than that of 2018, and its research and development (R&D) spending rose by 14.47 percent year on year to 46.957 billion yuan.

The sci-tech innovation input index of 23 districts and counties in Chongqing registered different levels of improvement in 2019 compared with that of 2018, said the report.

Meanwhile, the city's sic-tech innovation output index stood at 64.58 percent in 2019, 1.67 percentage points higher from 2018, with patents for innovation reaching 32,443, and such indexes of 20 districts and counties in the city recorded improvement, the report noted.

It also said that Chongqing's high-tech industrialization index was 69.23 percent in 2019, 1.08 percentage points higher from 2018, with high-tech firms growing by 673 to 3,141, high-tech product sales revenue of high-tech firms accounting for 87.42 percent of their main business revenue from 69.56 percent, and high-tech product exports rising by 10.61 percent to 3.9997 million yuan.

Besides, the sic-tech for economic development index of Chongqing was 63.42 percent in 2019, 1.39 percentage points higher from 2018, and such indexes of 20 districts and counties of the city improved, said the report.
